Heads up—Charging credit cards for Backerkit orders

Hello Backers!

We're getting close now—the Emil Milan books will be arriving at our distribution center soon and we will begin shipping out individual orders in early May.

Just wanted to give you a little heads up that we plan to charge cards for add-on items you purchased or any additional funds you may owe through BackerKit on Wednesday, April 25. 

IMPORTANT: These are only charges for add-ons or upgrades through Backerkit. Your order through Kickstarter has already been charged and will not be charged again. If you didn't order anything additional through Backerkit then you will not have additional charges.

Make sure that you have the correct card information on file at Backerkit. If any issues arise with your payment you’ll receive an email letting your know to correct your payment information. If you need to review payment information, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at emil-milan.backerkit.com.

Also, once the credit cards are charged then the orders will be locked down so this is your LAST CHANCE to upgrade or add on to your order. There are less than 50 Limited Edition books remaining and when they are gone, they are gone.

Delivery Update and Pop-Up Exhibition with Gallery Talk

It has been a busy winter and we are excited to report that Emil Milan: Midcentury Master is finished printing and is being prepared for binding and shipment. The printing is beautiful and we were able to upgraded to a higher-end art paper for the body of the book. You are going to love it.

We are still on schedule for books to start delivering to Kickstarter backers at the end of April or early May. We will update you when we have more exact dates.

We are excited to announce a pop-up exhibition and gallery talk event

For those of you in the Philadelphia area you are invited to Join Craig Edelbrock, co-author of Emil Milan: Midcentury Master, for a presentation about the life and work of Emil Milan. Learn about Milan’s woodworking process, methods, and the influence he had on the craft movement in America after WWII. The gallery talk will be followed by a book signing.*

To coincide with the talk, Moderne Gallery will have a limited-engagement pop-up exhibition of Emil Milan artwork from their collection. The exhibition will be on view for only two days so be sure to mark your calendar. The exhibition will include almost 50 artworks and most of them will be available for purchase. *Unfortunately, Kickstarter backers will not be able to pick up their books at this event. Standard books purchased through Kickstarter include a digital signature plate and all limited edition books are hand-signed by the authors. There is additional production involved in giving our Kickstarter-backed standard books this small detail and coordinating the shipping of your books directly to you. In planning the event, we were able to air freight a small amount of books already completed while the full order of books is being finished and shipped to our fulfillment center. All Kickstarter backers will be receiving their books later in April and we will post another update when we have more accurate dates to share. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We know you are anxious to receive your books. We encourage everyone who can visit Moderne Gallery for this limited engagement to do so. It will be a unique opportunity to see Emil Milan’s work on display, and learn about the artist’s process and methods from the co-author of this extraordinary publication.

The Limited Edition signature plates are complete

Hello backers,

Production of the Emil Milan book is continuing and we are excited to share with you the final signature plates for the Limited Edition book. Lots of care has gone into making these signature plates and they will help make the Limited Edition a truly special item. Here are the details of production: 

• The plates are letterpress printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton archival paper.
• Hand signed with pigment ink archival pens by each of the four members of the Emil Milan Research Team.
• Over 300 signature plates were shipped to five different cities and took six weeks to complete.
• Hand stamped with the impression of Milan’s signature from the base of one of his actual bird sculptures. Oil-based archival block printing ink was used for the stamping.
• Hand numbered in an edition of 200.

There are less than 50 of the Limited Edition books left and you can still upgrade your pledge in order to receive one of these rare items.

If you want to change your pledge level and have already completed the Backerkit questionnaire then you can follow the link in your confirmation email that will take you to your order online. At the top of the page you can click on the link below “Your Pledge Level” and then click on “Switch Pledge Levels?” in the upper right of the pop up window. There you can choose to upgrade to the Limited Edition pledge levels.

You can also choose to add on a Limited Edition book to your existing order. Click on “View Confirmation” in the upper right corner of your order online and then you can select “Edit Add-ons” in the lower left corner of the next screen.

Upgrade and add-on opportunities

Your pledge last year helped make Emil Milan: Midcentury Master a reality. The book is on press this month and will be delivering to your doorstep in April. We are so excited for you to receive this beautiful book.

Our Kickstarter campaign may have ended, but there is still time to take advantage of special offers for our early supporters. During the Backerkit questionnaire process you will have the opportunity to upgrade your pledge level or add on additional products to your order.

Upgrade to the Limited or Collector’s Editions before they are gone
There are less than 90 Limited Edition and only 10 Collector’s Edition books left. These books will not be available in stores. As a Kickstarter backer you will have an opportunity to upgrade your pledge to get one of these rare books before they are available to the general public. Add-ons
Through Backerkit you will have the opportunity to add-on other products to your pledge order. Get an extra book as a gift or add a wood slip case for your Standard Edition book.

Benefits of upgrading your pledge level

• Standard Edition and above pledges will be able to purchase add-on products with no additional shipping costs.
• Limited Edition and above pledges will get their books shipped first so you’ll receive your book before anyone else. Also, at these higher levels you can add Standard Editions of the book at the early bird price of only $49.
• Upgrade to Collector’s Edition and you will get free shipping on your entire order. The shipping you may have already paid will be applied to the price of the upgrade.

Your orders help Milan’s story reach more people

Soon, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit questionnaire. It’s important to respond to this request as quickly as you can since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your questionnaire. When you receive the email click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items, if you like.

After you respond, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the questionnaires and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your questionnaire by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://emil-milan.backerkit.com/
